Best ever advance rate for Cadia East


Those promoting fast-paced underground mine development in Australia – or “rapid development projects” – have hit a few speed bumps of late. Not so for Cadia East in New South Wales, where a high performance team has just passed a new advance-rate milestone in the proverbial home stretch of the project’s pre-feasibility decline development.

 

The Newcrest Mining gold-copper project’s four panel crews completed 311m of development in May, which could be “the best ever [advance rate] worldwide” for supported decline in a calendar month, according to Cadia East Underground Manager Stephen Powell.
